If you grew up in the 80's or 90's and love hip hop you know a thing or two about mixtapes. No not mix-cds but cassette tapes. Nas recently sat down with TDK to discuss his love for mixtapes, cassettes, and how music influenced his life growing up in the Queensbridge housing projects.
I remember these days. We created and dubbed tapes daily. Memories...

Raekwon gave us the best Wu album in years when he dropped OB4CL2 last year. He is slatted to release Shaolin vs. Wu Tang later this year which promises to be dope as well. In this edition of Sample Sessions we'll take it back to Rae's debut album OB4CL.
I think we all recognize the vocal samples in the intro from Scarface. The musical sample comes from a Harlem-based R&B group called Black Ivory. The song is called "I Keep Asking You Questions". Check it out.

As announced earlier today via my twitter page the Weekend Jam is no more. That being said, I present to you something new. We call it "Sample Sessions". We are big music junkies at Kirin so enjoying music isn't enough, we want to unearth its origin. So we will use this forum to bring you some of our favorite songs and the record it sampled. Got it? Good.
First up is a new joint by Kanye West/Jay-Z & La Roux entitled 'That's My Bitch". This song boast a dope drum pattern featured in an oldie by Afro-Rock band Assagai called "Telephone Girl". Producer Q-Tip masterfully manipulated this sample to create something fresh for two of hip hops best. Check it out.

Streetwear heavyweight LRG waste no time giving us a preview of their 2011 spring collection. In their latest video lookbook they display a more basic, stripped down style of outerwear pieces, knits, and of course the tees and denim that we have come accustomed to. The video is shot in beautiful San Juan Island, Washington. Check it out.

"Excellence is being able to perform at a higher level over and over again." This is Jay-Z's first statement as the featured guest on Oprah's new series "Master Class". In this day & time where achievement is so misconstrued Hov's words couldn't be more timely.
This program on Oprah's new network was created to share the stories of the "masters" in hopes to inspire through their successes, failures, and life lessons. Check out what Brooklyn's Finest had to say. Very inspirational...
